First Aid Courses for Parents
5hr New Baby Health and First Aid Course for New Parents, Grandparents and Maternity Nurses
The course will be taught by a first aid trainer who is also an experienced health visitor and also delivers baby massage classes. This is a fun and very informative 5hr course for those caring for a new baby and covers the following:
Baby Care and Health
- Essential equipment and safety
- Sleep routines- what is "normal" and relevance to first signs of illness
- Managing crying
- Feeding - balanced, safe advice on breast, bottle, winding and colic
- Bathing, nappies, nappy rash and nappy problems
Infant Health and Emergency First Aid
- "The Scary Normal" - dimples, new born rashes, jaundice, tongue tie and many more.
- Safety in the home - including sleep safety
- UK Childhood Immunisation Schedule
- Infant Resuscitation and Basic Life Support - following the latest UK Resuscitation Council guidelines
- Airway problems including choking
- Recognition of the early signs of illness in babies- meningitis, reflux, gut obstruction, pneumonia, TTN, bronchiolitis, dehydration and more
Maternal Health
- "The 6 Week Survival Kit"- How to survive the first 6 weeks- and enjoy them!
- Tips on maximising bonding experiences and dealing with feelings post birth
- Postnatal exercise
- Recognition of the early signs of postnatal depression
- An introduction to baby massage
Cost
The course is £65/ candidate and £50 each for a couple if they wish to attend together. Friendly, comfortable venues have been chosen carefully that will allow parents to take their babies with them. Purchasing a place on a course would be a fantastic, unusual gift for someone about to have a baby.
